This is, once again, an update on Dawarich, your favorite FOSS alternative to Google Timeline:
Make yourself a nice hot cup of tea and let's begin with the recent changes. Since the last update I posted was in the end of August, in this post I'll cover all the changes since then.
Google Timeline has been tracking your location history for years, quietly collecting data about everywhere you've been. But what happens when you export that data? You get one or multiple JSON files that... well, most people have no idea what to do with them.
That's why we built the Google Timeline Visualizer — a free, privacy-first tool that turns those cryptic JSON files into an interactive map you can actually explore.
When we think about memories, we usually imagine photos, videos, or maybe a diary. But what about the places we’ve been, the streets we’ve walked, the roads we’ve taken? That part of the story often gets lost. Dawarich helps turn your everyday routes and special trips into your own map of memories.

3 months passed since the last public update on Dawarich, so I figured, I should share the news with you once again.

So, TL;DR first, then some details.
So, mid-March this year Dawarich, your favorite alternative to Google Timeline, turned 1 year old. Yeah I know, I'm late to my own party. But still, I have to write this post. The progress I made during this year is pretty impressive, at least to myself: from nothing, Dawarich is now a known and loved piece of software, that is being run on dozens and dozens of home labs, and so many people are tracking their geodata, I can't even imagine. I literally can't, since, you know, there is no way to know how many of you are using it. But almost 5k stars on Github and nearly 150 supporters across Patreon, Ko-fi and GitHub says something, and I want to say thank you to you, my good people, and those who support or ever supported us on the mentioned platforms.

It's time for a monthly update on what happened to Dawarich, your favourite self-hosted alternative to Google Timeline, in December — but since it's December, I'd like to share an overview of what happened during this year in general, too.
All in all — what a year! With the very first experiments about a year ago, I started working on Dawarich in March this year and it soon became my main pet-project.

November was a good month for Dawarich. I've added a lot of new features and fixed a some bugs, and, among other things, I've added a new Patreon tier.
